
Reid was born in Louisville, Kentucky, the oldest of nine children. His father, Jimmy, was a World War II veteran who worked at International Harvester and his mother, Mary Beverly Thompson Haire worked as a stay at home mom.
The first in his family to attend college, Reid graduated from Bellarmine University with a degree in political science; working full-time through college at a local factory.
Upon graduation, Reid was hired by the U.S. Department of the Treasury and was appointed to a post with the IRS. After 27 years of service, Reid retired as Western Kentucky Regional Manager. During that career, Reid lived in Louisville, Owensboro, Hopkinsville, Paducah, Lexington, and Washington, DC.
Reid was first elected to the County Judge/Executive post in 1998 and has since been re-elected as Judge/Executive in 2002 and 2006 by wide margins. As County Judge/Executive, Reid acts as Chief Executive Officer managing an organization with a $50 million budget and over 200 employees.
Reid has refocused Daviess County government to a broad, results-oriented approach to healthcare, education, public safety and economic development while still maintaining excellent basic services. And due to solid fiscal management, the property tax rate for the citizens of Daviess County is the same as it was in 1999 when he took office.
In health care, Reid increased access to health care resulted in a $9 million Community Health Center and helped the local hospital expand and grow into a regional leader in meeting the health care needs of the region expanding by 500 employees.
In public safety, Reid led the effort to build a new jail and two new fire stations, fund more deputies patrolling county roads, and provide all 13 Daviess County fire stations with the most up-to-date and modern equipment to deliver emergency response to the citizens.
In quality of life, thanks to Reid’s leadership, the county’s support for museums, the symphony, fine arts center, as well as social agencies has increased more than ten-fold; land was purchased and new parks were built including a quality Soccer Complex; and reclaimed land was acquired from the state and converted into the Daviess County Gun Club for sporting activities.
In education, Reid has championed the drive for greater access to higher education and in conjunction with Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, has purchased land and is building a college to serve Western’s needs in Daviess County and provide affordable and accessible higher education.
In economic development, Reid is spearheading the expansion of broadband internet access across a seven-county area, the largest expansion of internet access in the nation, aimed at making local businesses more competitive and to attract new businesses and jobs.
Reid is the proud father of three daughters and son-in-laws Christy and Matt Gross, Shannon and Derek Janquart, and Lori and Jason Counts. He also has five granddaughters Carly, Ashton, Aidren, Sophia Reid and Scarlett.
