Reid Haire’s effective campaign across Kentucky’s 2nd Congressional District and the support he’s drawing as demonstrated through his strong fundraising performance in the first quarter is drawing national attention.
The blog “Swing State Project,” focusing on political news in key swing states, is highlighting key races in May to keep an eye on and cites Kentucky’s 2nd District simply because of Reid Haire’s campaign.
The blog says that “Democrats will go to the polls to decide between state Sen. David Boswell and Daviess County Judge-Executive Reid Haire for the Democratic nomination to contest this open seat left behind by the retiring Rep. Ron Lewis.
Boswell was seen as the early front-runner, but his fundraising has been extremely sluggish ($30K to Haire's $200K in the first quarter).” For the full article, click here.
Reid Haire is the first Democratic candidate in Kentucky’s 2nd Congressional District to begin television advertising, demonstrating again that he will be the strongest candidate this November.
Haire’s first ad highlights his achievements as Daviess County Judge Executive and how he will fight for change in Washington with the same “making it happen” approach he brought to the county. Among the successes are a new $9 million clinic that makes health care more affordable and accessible, building two new fire stations and adding patrol deputies and launching a project with Western Kentucky to make a four-year college education available in the Owensboro area.

The Democratic rivals in the Second District Congressional primary squared off Monday night soon after Bowling Green mayoral candidates faced the same forum.
State Sen. David Boswell and Daviess County Judge-Executive Reid Haire, both of Owensboro, are vying to replace U.S. Rep. Ron Lewis, R-Cecelia, who announced just hours before the deadline to file for office that he would not seek re-election.
One of them will face State Sen. Brett Guthrie, R-Bowling Green, in the fall.
The forum at Bowling Green Junior High School was sponsored by the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce, WBKO-TV and Insight Communications, and moderated by WBKO anchorman Gene Birk.
Vice President Dick Cheney was in Lexington yesterday to raise money for state Sen. Brett Guthrie, a Bowling Green Republican who is seeking Kentucky's 2nd Congressional District seat.
Cheney landed at Blue Grass Airport and went to the home of Judson and Kelly Knight, where the event was held.
Scott Jennings, an adviser to Guthrie, said the campaign would not release the amount raised.
"I am honored and flattered the vice president would take time to help my campaign for Congress," Guthrie said in a statement. "We had a successful event today, with supporters joining us from across the state."
Jennings said the event lasted about two hours.
Guthrie is the only GOP candidate for the 2nd District seat held by Republican Ron Lewis, who is not seeking re-election.
Guthrie will face the winner of the May 20 Democratic primary between state Sen. David Boswell and Daviess County Judge-Executive Reid Haire, both of Owensboro.
Kelly Knight is a longtime Republican fund raiser. President Bush named her last year as an alternate delegate to the United Nations.
