Cheney assists Guthrie event

Vice President Dick Cheney was in Lexington yesterday to raise money for state Sen. Brett Guthrie, a Bowling Green Republican who is seeking Kentucky's 2nd Congressional District seat.

Cheney landed at Blue Grass Airport and went to the home of Judson and Kelly Knight, where the event was held.

Scott Jennings, an adviser to Guthrie, said the campaign would not release the amount raised.

"I am honored and flattered the vice president would take time to help my campaign for Congress," Guthrie said in a statement. "We had a successful event today, with supporters joining us from across the state."
Jennings said the event lasted about two hours.

Guthrie is the only GOP candidate for the 2nd District seat held by Republican Ron Lewis, who is not seeking re-election.

Guthrie will face the winner of the May 20 Democratic primary between state Sen. David Boswell and Daviess County Judge-Executive Reid Haire, both of Owensboro.

Kelly Knight is a longtime Republican fund raiser. President Bush named her last year as an alternate delegate to the United Nations.
